Frequently asked questions
The extension shows "Degraded mode" — what should I do?
This badge means the local ndaact.ai application (which handles advanced detection and PDF redaction) is unreachable. Check that it's running on your machine. In degraded mode, text protection stays active via a local regular-expression fallback (reduced accuracy), but PDF uploads are blocked until the app is restarted.
A PDF upload is blocked — why?
PDF redaction follows a strict policy: if the local application is unreachable or returns an error, the upload is blocked rather than sending the original document unredacted. Restart the local ndaact.ai application, then try again.
How do I view the detection history?
Click the extension icon in the toolbar, then "Audit" — you'll find the detail of detected data types, timestamped, without ever displaying the original value outside your machine.
How do I temporarily disable protection?
The toggle button at the top of the extension popup turns protection on/off for the current site.
Report a bug or suggest an improvement
To report an issue with the most useful technical detail possible, write to us at contact@ndaact.ai:
- Specify the extension version, the site involved (claude.ai or chatgpt.com), and the steps to reproduce.
- If possible, attach the error message shown in the browser console (right-click → Inspect → Console tab).
Please don't include personal data in your reports. If you're illustrating a detection bug, use fictional examples (fake name, fake IBAN) rather than your real data.
