The extension shows “No protection”

The local ndaact.ai app is unreachable from the extension, your session isn’t open, or the detection model isn’t ready yet. Redaction goes exclusively through that app: there is no rough browser-side fallback, which would give a false sense of security. As long as protection isn’t active, sending is blocked instead of letting the text leave in clear.

What to do: check that the desktop app is running (icon in the menu bar or notification area) and that you are signed in to it. If the icon shows a red “!” badge, restart the app. If the model is downloading (icon with an animated arrow), wait: sending becomes possible again as soon as it is ready.

If you want to write without protection: turn it off explicitly from the extension popup. The badge turns grey, sending resumes in clear, and you know you chose it.

A PDF upload is blocked

PDF redaction follows a deliberately strict policy: if the local app is unreachable or returns an error, the upload is blocked rather than sending the original document unprotected. This is the intended behavior: no unredacted file should ever slip through by accident.

What to do: restart the local ndaact.ai app, wait for the icon to return to its normal state, then try the upload again.

How to view the detection history

Click the extension icon, then the tab listing recent detections. You’ll find the type of data detected and its timestamp; the original value is not shown.

How to temporarily disable protection

The toggle at the top of the extension popup turns protection on or off for the currently open site. This only affects the browser-side extension; on the clipboard side, suspension works separately and stays temporary (30 minutes), never a full permanent disable: complete clipboard management happens in the desktop app.

How to sign in or switch accounts

Sign-in and license management happen in the desktop app, not the extension. If the extension popup shows you’re not signed in, use the button that opens the sign-in flow in the app.

How to uninstall

Extension: remove it from your browser’s extensions page (chrome://extensions). All data stored locally by the extension (chrome.storage) is deleted with it.

Desktop app. On macOS, delete the app from Finder. Windows: uninstall via “Add or remove programs”.
